Ship handed over to Navy

NEW ORLEANS - Northrop Grumman Ship Systems delivered the $1.2 billion ship that will become the USS New York to the Navy at 9:11 a.m. Friday. It will be formally named this fall in its commissioning in New York City. The ship has forged in its bow stem 7 1/2 tons of steel from the World Trade Center, which collapsed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
