PASCAGOULA, Miss. - Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding launched its newest amphibious transport dock ship Arlington (LPD 24) Tuesday. It's the eighth ship of the USS San Antonio (LPD 17) class of ships, and it's 77 percent complete. The ship's christening is tentatively scheduled for spring of 2011. The LPD 17 ships are 684 feet long and designed to deploy the combat and support elements of Marine expeditionary units and brigades.
