Tank ship strikes Sunshine Bridge

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard responded to a tank ship that had struck the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish, La., on June 16. The bridge was closed for about two hours during an inspection, but has since reopened. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report that the Marshall Islands flagged tank ship, Dank Silver, struck the Sunshine Bridge at 1:30 p.m. The vessel, owned by Dank Silver Maritime Transportation Company Ltd., was heading down the Mississippi River from Burnside, La. It is being assessed for damages at Grande View Anchorage in Louisiana. There have been no reported injuries or pollution. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
