Retired USS Drum sailors reunite
Sailors once assigned to the former Sturgeon-class fast attack submarine USS Drum (SSN 677) gathered in San Diego in mid-October for a first major reunion since the ship’s decommissioning in 1995. As part of the festivities, the group toured the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS San Francisco (SSN 711), home-ported at Naval Base Point Loma. Drum was commissioned April 15, 1972, and earned two Navy Unit Commendations, seven Meritorious Unit Commendations, and the Battle Efficiency Award in 1991.
