Reports cite shipbuilding dangers

The former head of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is calling on the Navy to stop doing business with shipbuilders who jeopardize worker-safety in the wake of a series of stories by Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. In a series of stories this month, Reveal claims the Navy and Coast Guard’s seven major private shipbuilders have received more than $100 billion in public money despite serious safety lapses that have endangered, injured and killed workers.
