MS native commands Whirlwind


MANAMA, Bahrain – Navy Lt. Joseph Brisco, a native of Vicksburg, Miss, became the commanding officer of the Cyclone Class coastal patrol ship USS Whirlwind (PC 11) on May 1 during a change of command ceremony pierside at Naval Support Activity Bahrain. Brisco comes to Whirlwind from duty as operations officer aboard USS Green Bay (LPD 20) based in Sasebo, Japan. The ship is one of 10 PCs forward deployed to Bahrain. The vessel was laid down March 4, 1994, by Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, La., and launched Sept. 9, 1994.
