MS River rising; may stop levee work

The Mississippi River is forecast to rise to 15 feet in New Orleans by Feb. 21, and to continue rising to 16 feet by March 3, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. But, there are no current plan to open the Bonnet Carre Spillway, according to the Army Corps of Engineers. The latest rise is being driven by rainfall across the northern Mississippi and Ohio river basins. The rising river level may also trigger a full stoppage of work on levees along the river between Baton Rouge and the mouth of the Mississippi.
