Hancock opposing La. diversion

The Hancock County (Miss.) Board of Supervisors launched a new strategy this week opposing the proposed $800M Mid-Breton Sediment Diversion, and calling it a threat to the county’s fisheries resources and the future of recreational and economic development. Hancock County is east of Slidell, La., and Pearl River and includes the communities of Bay St. Louis and Waveland. On Oct. 7, the board adopted a resolution asking Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant to oppose federal permits Louisiana needs from the Army Corps of Engineers to build the diversion on the east bank of the Mississippi River at Will’s Point in Plaquemines Parish.
