NTSB’s El Faro synopsis online
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a 16-page digest summarizing critical events and decisions that led to the 2015 sinking of the El Faro, and the loss of 33 crewmembers, during Hurricane Joaquin in 2015. The digest synopsizes more than 60 recommendations issued throughout the NTSB’s investigation. The summary makes for an easy-to-read digest compared with the thousands of pages that comprise the NTSB’s final report. The accident report is available at www.ntsb.gov. El Faro‘s navigation bridge and the deck below separated from the main wreck, which was found in 15,000 feet of water northeast of Crooked Island in the Bahamas, near its last reported position.
