La. enviro group places Super Bowl ad

Restore the Mississippi River Delta, a Louisiana environmental group, is placing an ad about the state’s land loss crisis in Feb. 3’s Super Bowl hoping to reach the state's public about the risks of erosion and sea-level rising along the coastline. Restore spent $46,000 producing and buying broadcast, which will air during the local Super Bowl broadcast during the third quarter of the game. The ad, which features children and teens from New Orleans, Plaquemines Parish, Houma and parts of the coastal Louisiana, will urge viewers to restore and protect the coastline that research shows is disappearing the length of a football field every 100 minutes, according to Jacques Hebert, the group’s spokesman. Hebert joked with NOLA.com that Saints fans who can’t bare to watch the game (Saints are in the game) could tune in just in the third period. After that, the ad will run about 300 times on WWL-TV, WUPL and NewsWatch 15 over a six-week period. Restore is also using the ad on the Internet via social media and YouTube. “Hopefully it’ll channel some of that same energy people feel for the Saints back to our community and our coast,” Hebert said.
