There are more than 50,000 miles of hydrocarbon pipelines spanning the Gulf of Mexico’s continental shelf and five Gulf Coast states' inland waters, rivers, bays, lakes, and coastal areas. There are more pipelines being built and more boats on those waterways raising the chances of vessels coming into contact with some of those pipelines.
