JHSV 2 launched today in 2012

The Joint High Speed Vehicle USNS Choctaw County (JHSV 2) was christened and launched at Mobile, Ala.’s Austal USA Shipyard on this day (Sept. 15) in 2012. The ship is operated by the Military Sealift Command. MSC operates some 110 non-combatant, civilian-crewed ships that replenish Navy ships, conduct specialized missions, strategically preposition combat cargo at sea around the world, and move military cargo and supplies used by deployed U.S. and coalition-partner forces. JHSV 2 was the second Spearhead-class expeditionary fast (EPF) transport ship built at Austal USA. It was previously named Vigilant by the Army before being transferred to the EPF program where it would get its new name – for three counties in Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma.
