VTHM plans $37M expansion

VT Halter Marine shipbuilding plans to invest $37.5M to expand its operations in Pascagoula, Miss., in order to fulfill a recent $745M contract award from the Coast Guard to construct a Polar Security Cutter icebreaker. The project is expected to create 900 jobs over the next five years. The cutter will be the first Coast Guard heavy icebreaker constructed in the last 40 years. VT Halter Marine’s investment includes rehabilitation and modernization of its Pascagoula shipyard. The renovations are scheduled to begin later this year; and expected delivery to the CG is in 2024.
