The Gulf of Mexico's recreational amberjack federal fishing season will remain closed through December 31. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) projects GoM’s amberjack recreational fishing will exceed allowable harvests, and announced the season will not reopen on Aug. 1. The recreational season will reopen Jan. 1, 2017. NOAA deemed the closure as necessary to protect the over-fishing of amberjack. (Source:
