Sub drones explore GoM shipwrecks

Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are conducting an expedition to explore shipwrecks in the uncharted waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and returning topside with stunning video. The researchers are using remote-operated submarine drones to investigate some of the shipwrecks that are thousands of feet deep in the GoM. From a tugboat that was the subject of a daring rescue mission off the coast of Louisiana during a tropical storm in the 1960s to German U-boats and 19th century pirate ships, the NOAA scientists and archaeologists are seeking to learn all they can about the ships’ histories.
