NEW ORLEANS - For the second day in a row, the Coast Guard is searching for a person in the water in south Louisiana. CG Sector New Orleans received a report just before midnight June 18 of a vessel with two passengers that was overdue to return home from a trip into Vermillion Bay, La. A CG Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew discovered the capsized vessel in the bay, and located one survivor, who had swam to a nearby rig. The survivor told the crew that the vessel had struck a submerged object, ejecting both passengers from the boat before capsizing. The missing person is a 40-year-old Caucasian male wearing khaki shorts and either white or grey shirt. Other agencies involved in the search are CG Station Grand Isle Rescue boat crew; CG Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.'s, HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew; Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries; Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office; and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff Office. UPDATE: The CG has suspended its search the person in the water of Vermilion Bay in the evening of June 20 after searching about 1780 square miles continuously for 25+ hours.
