CG rescues trio near Lake Borgne

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard rescued three people from a capsized vessel near Lake Borgne, La., in the evening of March 31. Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Ala., received a report around 8:50 p.m. over Channel 16 VHF, the international distress marine radio frequency. The CG directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from CG Air Station New Orleans. The aircrew arrived on scene and observed a flare; and locating the trio clinging to the hull of the vessel. The aircrew hoisted the people and transported them to Gulfport (Miss.) Airport, where they were met by local EMS. EMS reported the people were in stable condition. (Source: Coast Guard 04/02/01)
