Bonnet Carre Spillway structure should be closed by May 1 as the Mississippi River in New Orleans continues to fall and upriver flooding abates, the
Army Corps of Engineers confirmed April 27. Last Friday, the CoE began closing 10 bays a day of the remaining 80 open bays. The closure will mean the spillway opening lasted just short of a month.
